Guadalajara: European City of Sport 2018

Guadalajara: European City of Sport 2018

On October 6, 2017, Guadalajara was declared European Sports City 2018 by ACES Europe, Federation of Capitals and European Sports Cities.

This distinction is a recognition at European level of the policies undertaken by the City of Guadalajara to promote sports in the city and make it a lifestyle for our neighbors. This has resulted in the improvement of our sports facilities and in the creation of new ones, in support of our local clubs and athletes, in the promotion of sports and in the organization of major events, which are making huge profits in the city. ; the most important, beyond the economic, is that these appointments, many of them international, allow our neighbors to be direct witnesses of the best athletes in the world and to be infected with values ??such as effort, improvement and teamwork, intrinsic in sports.

During 2018, Guadalajara will host around 230 local, regional, national and international sports events. They will generate around 60,000 overnight stays, which will result in a very positive way in boosting our local economy. However, for Guadalajara City Council this is not the goal, but one of the consequences. Our goal is another: that more and more people who practice sports in the city, because a society that practices sports is a healthier society.
